Delivering comprehensive technical solution services for a large-format arena production is never a simple undertaking. Delivering three world-class arena events, in the space of a week, in the same venue, is Herculean by anybody’s account. The Gearhouse Group of companies proved their mettle in December last year by achieving just that at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. ETECH takes a look at how they accomplished this outstanding achievement.
Live events supplier Gearhouse has invested in additional K2 and KS28 L-Acoustics cabinets, 36 LA12x amplified controllers in LA-RAKII and eight P1 AVB audio processors, making it the largest L-Acoustics Certified Provider in South Africa and boosting its ability to service even the most ambitious national events. This investment also makes Gearhouse the first company on the continent to meet the new KX Standard for its large format systems. In December, this new capability was put into service at the massive Global Citizen Festival in the 90,000 capacity FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
In a world increasingly concerned with sustainability and greening, the Live Events industry continues to evolve to stay in line with this type of demand on our businesses. At Gearhouse Group, several initiatives are in place to mitigate the companies’ impact on the environment and improve the sustainability of the operation.
Set to succeed – Sets Drapes Screens on 3 months in Kwa Zulu Natal.
Sets Drapes Screens (SDS) Durban has got off to a good start since it officially opened its doors in April 2017 under the leadership of Branch Manager, Pieter Brink and General Manager, Karien Eigner. The company provides high-quality set manufacture and installation as well as specialised screen and drape rental services for live events. SDS is also a key member of the 9-strong, internationally recognised, Gearhouse Group of Companies.
Concretizing the ethos of Sets Drapes Screens(SDS) in 2017, is the fast growing set building company’s new look and revamped 160sqm work space. “It is extremely important that our employees work in a safe and inspiring environment but it is also vital that our building reflects what we are about as a company. We are active in various arenas - corporate, film, exhibition and experiential events and the building needed to reflect that versatility as well” says SDS Managing Director, Pieter Joubert.
The One Young World (OYW) Summit brings together 1,500 young thought leaders from around the world to work together towards inspiring and leading change. 2013 saw the event taking place in Africa for the first time, with the technical support of the Gearhouse Group of Companies in Johannesburg.
